Design experts in the furnishings industry are working earnestly to conceptualize ways to help create safer environments in our universities, hotels, restaurants, and healthcare facilities. They are focused on products that offer antimicrobial benefits yet are suitable for high-use and durable enough to withstand multiple cleanings with disinfectants.

Beaufurn is already integrating antimicrobial technology and multi-cleansing durability in its interior and exterior furnishings. We recently introduced our Healthcare Collection, a line of furniture designed specifically for healthcare and assisted living facilities.

Finishes That Stand Up to Today’s New Cleaning Standards

Stain-, bacterial-, and abrasion-resistant fabrics that can withstand cleansing routines and abrasion are now essential in good design. Bleachable fabric options, adjustable and removable cushions for ease of cleaning, and durable finishes that can withstand multiple washings will become standard.

Upholstery

Our grade in fabric products already incorporates bacterial-resistant properties for upholstery with anti-microbial finishes. Many of our healthcare fabrics are bleach-cleanable and can be safely sanitized using a bleach solution of 1-part bleach to 10-parts water without compromising the fabric finish.

These Beaufurn fabric choices include stain-resistant finishes, antibacterial finishes, and moistures barriers ideal for use in hospitals, educational and government facilities, hotels, and restaurants.

In addition to our focus on fabrics that can be routinely cleaned with antimicrobial products, we maintain our commitment to using water-based glues in our upholstering processes. These water-based glues are Greenguard-certified, meeting strict guidelines for air quality for improved public health. 

Wood finishes/topcoats

Our wood furnishings are highly durable and cleanable for aseptic integrity. Our chemical company has tested our proprietary finish solution and rated it a 5 out of 5 on longevity testing with ammonia, Lysol cleaners, and other disinfectant products. (Surfaces must be wiped dry after using any disinfectants; test-spot cleaning should be done prior to full use.)

With a water-based lacquer, the wood’s natural beauty shines through while it gains durability and chemical resistance. Our wood furnishings can be easily cleaned and sanitized.

High Use Products That Are Easily Cleaned

Double-rubs are a standard measurement of a fabric’s abrasion resistance and durability. In the wake of COVID-19, facilities will seek fabrics tested to withstand thousands of double-rubs while also offering bacterial resistance and antibacterial protection. Our products already incorporate bacterial-resistant fabrics with an abrasion resistance of more than 100,000 double rubs. Many Beaufurn designs in the Health Care line use fabrics with anti-microbial finishes tested to withstand more than 90,000 double rubs and some up to 1.3 million double rubs.

Suggested Cleaning Products for Anti-Virus Use

The EPA has established a list of disinfectants (List N) that meet their criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the cause of COVID-19. The following Lysol products are those that meet either the EPA Viral Emerging Pathogen Policy or have human coronavirus claims.
